JPMorgan just dropped a report that should be required reading for every builder in this ecosystem. Full credit to Yogita Khatri at The Block for breaking it down beautifully, seriously go read her piece if you haven't yet.



Now let me tell you why this report matters more than most people realize. 👇

The headline number: stablecoin transaction volume is running at an annualized pace of 

 in 2026. Let that sink in. Not market cap. Not TVL. Transaction volume. That is money in motion. Real economic activity flowing through stablecoin rails at a scale that was considered impossible three years ago.

But here is where JPMorgan's analysis gets really interesting, and where I think most people are reading it wrong.

The analysts argue that rising velocity, meaning the same stablecoin being reused in transactions more frequently, could actually cap market cap growth. Their logic: more efficient payment systems need less total supply to move the same volume. The stablecoin universe doesn't need to be 

annually.

Most people read that as bearish.

I read it as the most 

 signal imaginable for infrastructure builders.

When velocity increases, every inefficiency in the payment stack gets amplified. A 0.5 second delay that didn't matter at low velocity becomes a bottleneck at high velocity. A gas spike that was tolerable at 10 transactions per minute becomes catastrophic at 10,000. A finality model that says "probably settled after 12 confirmations" becomes unacceptable when trillions are flowing through the system annually.

High velocity doesn't just need fast infrastructure. It needs PREDICTABLE infrastructure. It needs infrastructure where the cost of every transaction is knowable in advance, where settlement is genuinely final, where compliance is embedded rather than bolted on after the fact.

Read that paragraph again and tell me it doesn't describe

Stablecoin native gas: every transaction cost is denominated in dollars. A CFO can model operating costs for the next five years without hedging a volatile gas token. That is not a convenience. That is a prerequisite for institutional treasury operations at scale. 🔑

Deterministic finality: settlement is settlement. Not probabilistic. Not "final after 64 blocks unless there is a reorg." When 

 in velocity, they are describing a system where "almost settled" is not good enough. You need absolute certainty. 

 delivers that by design.

Sub-second block times: when the same

 is being reused hundreds of times per day across payments, yield, streaming, and agent transactions, the infrastructure needs to absorb that frequency without congestion, without gas wars, without mempool chaos.

And 

revealed something else that most analysts skipped over: consumer-to-business and merchant payments are now the fastest growing category of stablecoin usage. Not trading. Not speculation. Not collateral shuffling. Real commerce. Real businesses. Real customers paying for real goods and services.

That is a fundamental shift.

For five years the narrative was "stablecoins are for traders." That narrative is dead. The data proves it. The

 is not Binance wash trading. It is a global payment system being born in real time.

Now layer in the regulatory convergence.

The 

established the first US federal framework for payment stablecoins in 2025. The 

 is now advancing with bipartisan compromise on stablecoin yield. In Europe, 

 created the regulatory perimeter. Three major jurisdictions, all moving in the same direction, all within 18 months.

Policy infrastructure and technical infrastructure are converging simultaneously. That has happened exactly once before in financial history: the creation of the internet payment stack in the late 1990s. And we all know how that turned out.
