This guide walks through running a full Arc local testnet (5 validator nodes + 1 full node) on a Windows machine using WSL2. The setup includes Blockscout block explorer, Grafana dashboard, and Prometheus metrics — all running locally via Docker.

Successfully tested on: Windows 11, WSL2 Ubuntu 24.04, Arc node v0.6.0

Stable internet connection for Docker image pulls

Step 1 — Enable WSL2 and install Ubuntu

Reboot when prompted. Ubuntu will launch automatically and ask you to create a username and password.

# Install specific Foundry version required by the project

Build takes 20–30 minutes. Requires clang/libclang — if you see a "couldn't find libclang" error, run: sudo apt install -y clang llvm libclang-dev

Step 4 — Fix WSL2 traffic control limitation

WSL2 kernel does not support the tc (traffic control) module used for latency emulation. Bypass it:

Grafana, Prometheus, and Blockscout backend need write access to their data directories:

sudo chmod 777 ~/arc-node/.quake/monitoring/data/grafana

sudo chmod 777 ~/arc-node/.quake/monitoring/data/prometheus

sudo chmod 777 ~/arc-node/.quake/localdev/blockscout/dets

Once you see Testnet started, all services are live:

Add a custom network in MetaMask with these settings:

Fund your wallet from the pre-funded genesis account

# Send 100 tokens to your MetaMask address

  --private-key 0xac0974be………………………………………. \

Note: The genesis test private key above is public and well-known — use it only on local testnet, never on mainnet.

# Send transaction load (100 tx/s for 30s)

6 nodes running (validator1–5 + full1), each with 5 connected peers

Block height advancing in real time (~17k+ blocks during testing)

Sub-second block finality visible in Grafana (~520ms block time)

MetaMask connected and transactions confirmed on-chain
