Why StableFX on Arc is the FX primitive we've been waiting for

The best crypto content right now is not on CNN, not on mainstage panels at six-figure conferences [except for 

 - if you don't know yet - yes, there will be an an Arc token], and not in analyst reports. It's in 

 with gigabrains, recorded in someone's home studio, in the language their audience actually speaks. Polished, intimate, and criminally under-distributed. That's where the alpha is.

 — Venezuelan, VP of Product at Circle, eight and a half years in, ex-JP Morgan FX trader — sat down last week with Lalo of 

 for an hour-long Spanish-language interview. It is the clearest articulation of Circle's FX thesis available in public right now. Three translated moments are worth the whole post:

"Just this morning I was talking with one of the biggest companies from Asia — literally a trillion dollars that they move between Europe, Hong Kong, Dubai. And they were asking me: 'when do you have the local stablecoins with enough liquidity for us to move?' Because it would save them millions and millions of dollars in cost, just on the interest rate of dollars sitting idle between banks. So there is a huge opportunity to put FX onchain. It opens the doors to new markets, new assets, new strategies."

The institutions are not waiting for permission. 

"We see Arc as the operating system for the internet that will be the Layer 1 base for the stablecoin economy."

"Once stablecoins become the infrastructure for AI agents to transact — permissionless digital money, no Stripe authorization, no credit card — that's going to be the USDC moment, six years in. Billions, then trillions of stablecoin transactions from agents."

Lalo pushed on one of the most important nuances in the whole conversation: 

 Venezuelans want maximum protection from the regime and reach for USDC as a last resort. Argentines want a mixed wallet — dollars to save, pesos to spend, banks to avoid. Brazilians are two decades ahead of their neighbors on financial sophistication:

"The other day I was talking with the leadership of Mercado Bitcoin, and they were saying that already 40% of Mercado Bitcoin's business is not speculating in Bitcoin — it's Brazilians investing in tokenized credit assets of Brazilian companies, and also companies that sell into Brazil, so a lot of European and Asian entrepreneurs. You're seeing sophisticated markets emerging for Brazil, completely tokenized, working directly with the Banco Central."

Read that one more time. The largest crypto exchange in Brazil is now, primarily, a 

tokenized corporate credit investing platform

. The speculation layer was the on-ramp. The real business is onchain capital markets. One region, four different FX problems. One infrastructure layer has to serve all of them.

adjusted stablecoin volumes are on track for $719 trillion by 2035

, matching Visa and Mastercard combined by 2039. The catalyst is a 

$100 trillion generational wealth transfer

 from Boomers to Millennials and Gen Z — a cohort for whom "international" already means a WhatsApp call.

But $35 trillion moved on stablecoin rails last year, and only ~1% was real-world payments. That gap isn't a bug. It's what happens when you ship half a money system. USDC and EURC solved 

 — the local-currency leg that every real-world flow eventually terminates in.

First the banks, then the fintechs — and the fintechs are already moving

Rachel gave the timeline in plain language: big banks and trillion-dollar corporates are the primary demand signal, but they move in 6-to-18-month cycles — board approvals, POCs, compliance reviews, vendor onboarding. Fintechs don't have that drag. They don't need bank-issued stablecoins either; a Bitso-issued MXNB or a regulated non-bank issuer works fine. Smaller balance sheet, faster reflexes.

The fintech layer is already live and shipping volume. 

 — already transacting in the millions of dollars on USDC rails. Nubank alone has 

 vs. Revolut's 64 million. Félix Pago, Venezuelan-and-Mexican-founded, is doing LatAm remittances end-to-end on stablecoins. And then there's the quieter category: high-growth B2B payment companies in LatAm like 

 — most people don't know it and they don't even talk about it 🥷 but the settlement leg underneath their B2B flows already runs on stablecoins. You see it in the speed and the unit economics before you ever see it in the marketing. That's the tell for what's coming: 

) nailed on the show: fintechs are a tiny fraction of what global payments actually do. Meaningful volume lives inside corporate treasury, supplier settlement, payroll, trade finance — the stuff banks and mega-corporates run. That's why the generational shift matters. When the banks finally move, and when the $100T starts changing hands to a generation that already uses WhatsApp for "international calls," 

the word "international" quietly disappears from payments

LatAm, by the way, will likely skip the fintech generation the US is currently building. Pix in Brazil and SPEI in Mexico already move money instantly for near-zero cost. ACH in the US still takes days. Lalo calls this fintech 3.0 — the leapfrog straight to onchain, without the intermediate step. Emerging markets out-innovate the incumbent rails when they aren't burdened by them.

 market still running on batch processing and correspondent chains. CLS covers 18 currencies and leaves 

 in nostro/vostro pre-funding. Cross-border payments are 27% of global fees for 17% of volume — a 

 — vetted makers quote against live inventory. Sub-100ms quote, sub-200ms execution. Maps onto the 60–70% of real FX flow that already runs RFQ.

 — escrow releases funds only when both legs are funded. CLS-grade safety, no CLS membership required.

, JPYC, and other vetted regional issuers minting 1:1-backed local stablecoins into a shared FX engine. Arc testnet already lists eight: MXNB, BRL, Philippine peso, JPY, Korean Won.

No AMM. No invariant curves. No slippage theater. Onchain cash, atomic settlement, net exposures. Brilliant.

The four primitives Arc ships that make it possible

StableFX only works because Arc ships four base-layer properties that together turn FX into a composable primitive:

 Deterministic, not probabilistic. No fraud proofs, no challenge windows. When a PvP contract confirms, the trade is done.

2. Predictable gas, denominated in stablecoins.

 USDC is Arc's native gas — not abstracted, native. Institutions will not hold volatile gas tokens on their balance sheet. This is the first L1 to admit that operational reality.

 Arc is CCTP-native (domain 26) and wired into Circle Gateway. StableFX liquidity does not need to live where your users live. An app on Ethereum, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Solana, or Polygon can tap Arc's FX engine at hyperspeed — burn on source, mint on Arc, execute, settle PvP, burn, mint back. StableFX becomes a remote liquidity primitive, consumed the way a web app consumes a CDN.

4. Opt-in privacy so FX can settle onchain.

 FX is the one market where public transparency kills you — reveal a flow's size and direction and you move the market against yourself. Arc ships confidential transfers with opt-in view keys for auditors and regulators. Compliance-compatible privacy, not privacy-as-evasion.

Instant finality + stablecoin-denominated gas + frictionless interop + opt-in privacy is 

: FX can become composable and atomic, settled onchain, at the speed of software, without asking any institution to compromise the operational guarantees they have today.

. Counterparty risk collapses from bilateral agreements to a PvP contract. Pre-funding collapses from $27T in idle nostro to just-in-time liquidity.

Onchain cash is king, and everything else — the forwards, the swaps, the NDFs, the correspondent chains — is a derivative trying to patch over a settlement layer that was never designed for the internet.

Rachel had a trillion-dollar customer in her calendar the morning of the interview, asking when MXNB liquidity would be deep. The fintechs — El Dorado, Littio, Arq, Félix Pago, Nubank, Cobre — are already doing millions in volume and waiting for deeper local-currency liquidity to do more. The banks are 6-to-18 months behind the fintechs. The generation inheriting $100 trillion is already here.

Chainalysis's $719 trillion isn't a forecast. It's a backlog. Arc and StableFX are how it clears.
