Fomo Trades: Automating Crypto Decisions on ARC Testnet

Fomo Trades is a prototype dapp built on ARC Testnet that uses the fear and greed index to drive automated trading decisions. Users set their own buy and sell thresholds, deposit testnet USDC, and enable auto mode. From that point the system monitors the index hourly, evaluates the signal, and signs trade transactions through the user's connected wallet. Every action is recorded on-chain and visible on ArcScan.

The protocol is designed for real execution. The swap logic for wrapped bitcoin and synth gold is fully written and wired. Actual token movement is pending liquidity on USDC/wBTC and USDC/gold pairs on ARC Testnet. That is a current testnet ecosystem gap. The moment those pools have liquidity, the system executes live trades without any additional code changes.

What the fear and greed index actually measures

The fear and greed index is a daily signal that compresses market behavior into a single number between zero and one hundred. It pulls data from multiple sources including market volatility, trading volume, social media activity, bitcoin dominance, and survey responses. When the number is low, the market is in a fear state. When it is high, the market is in a greed state.

The index does not predict price. It measures sentiment. And sentiment, historically, is a reliable contrarian indicator. Extreme fear tends to appear near market bottoms. Extreme greed tends to appear near tops. The traders who act opposite to the crowd at those moments tend to come out ahead over time.

The problem is that acting opposite to the crowd when you are part of the crowd is extremely difficult. When everything is falling and everyone around you is talking about catastrophe, buying feels irrational. When everything is rising and your feed is full of profit screenshots, selling feels like you are leaving money behind.

Fomo Trades removes that friction. You set your rules once. The system executes them.

The user connects their wallet through Privy, which supports both existing EVM wallets and new wallets created with just an email address. No seed phrase required for new users. They are on ARC Testnet, which uses USDC as the native gas token, so every interaction costs a predictable, stable amount.

After connecting, the user sets two numbers. A buy threshold and a sell threshold. If the fear and greed index falls to or below their buy threshold, the bot triggers a buy. If the index rises to or above their sell threshold, the bot triggers a sell. The user also sets a maximum USDC amount per trade. Everything else is automatic.

The system checks the fear and greed index every hour using the free API from alternative.me. When the index crosses a threshold, the bot evaluates whether a trade should fire based on its current state. It follows a single cycle model for the demo: buy once when conditions are met, then wait for the sell signal, then complete the cycle. This keeps behavior predictable and easy to verify.

Every trade action is signed by the user's connected wallet and broadcast to ARC Testnet. The transaction appears on ArcScan with a verifiable hash. Nothing is opaque.

Fomo Trades trades two assets, wrapped bitcoin and synth gold, and they are chosen deliberately because they respond to the same sentiment signal in different ways.

Wrapped bitcoin, or wBTC, is the EVM-compatible form of bitcoin. Native bitcoin cannot exist on EVM chains, so wBTC is the standard ERC-20 representation backed one to one by bitcoin held in custody. When fear is high and people are selling bitcoin below its perceived value, the bot buys wBTC. When greed is high and the market is overextended, the bot sells. This is a straightforward contrarian play.

Synth gold works differently. Gold is a safe-haven asset and its relationship with crypto sentiment runs in a specific direction. When markets are greedy, capital flows from safe-haven assets into risk assets. Gold demand softens and its price weakens. That is when the bot buys gold at a lower price. When markets are fearful, capital moves the other direction. Investors seek safety and gold demand rises. That is when the bot sells gold at a premium.

So on a fear signal, the bot buys wBTC and sells gold. On a greed signal, the bot sells wBTC and buys gold. Two assets, opposite strategies, same trigger. The result is a system that is active in both market conditions rather than sitting idle waiting for one specific state.

ARC Testnet made this project significantly easier to reason about. The USDC-as-gas model means transaction costs are denominated in the same asset the trading system uses. There are no separate gas tokens to manage, no secondary wallet to fund with ETH, no conversion step. A user deposits USDC, the system trades USDC, the gas comes from USDC. The accounting is clean.

The ERC-8183 standard, which ARC supports natively, provides the agentic settlement layer. Every trade creates an on-chain job that moves through defined states: open, funded, submitted, and completed. The outcome is verifiable by anyone. There is no trust-me-it-happened layer. The chain shows the record.

Privy's integration with ARC Testnet meant we could offer wallet creation through email login without asking users to understand seed phrases or browser extensions first. For a product targeting people who are not deeply technical, that matters. The first interaction with the product is connecting a wallet. If that step has friction, most users do not get to the part where the system is actually interesting.

Fomo Trades is a working prototype. The logic pipeline runs end to end. The fear and greed index is read live. The bot makes decisions. Transactions are signed and broadcast. Trade history is recorded per wallet. The subscription system sends real USDC on-chain. Everything can be verified on ArcScan.

The current limitation is that USDC to wBTC and USDC to synth gold swap pairs do not yet have established liquidity on ARC Testnet. This means the trade intent is recorded and signed but the actual token exchange does not complete. This is a testnet ecosystem gap rather than a system gap. The swap logic is fully written and the call is already in the codebase. When those liquidity pools exist on ARC Testnet, the system executes real trades without any additional development.

We are watching the ARC ecosystem closely. Synthra, the DEX building on ARC, has relevant tokens deployed including synth gold. As liquidity builds in those pools, Fomo Trades is positioned to activate real execution immediately.

The first two trades are free for every wallet. After that, a subscription of ten USDC per month is required to continue automated trading. The subscription is a real on-chain USDC transfer to a configurable recipient address. The Solidity contract for subscription management is written and ready to deploy. For the testnet demo, the payment goes to a burn address to keep things clean while the infrastructure is being tested.

This model was chosen deliberately. Free entry lets anyone experience the full product without commitment. The paid tier is priced in the same asset the product uses, USDC, so there is no secondary step to pay for access. Ten USDC per month for automated execution is a number that makes sense for a testnet product and provides a clear path to a real pricing model on mainnet.

What this represents as a product direction

The crypto market has tools for price analysis, portfolio tracking, news aggregation, and signal generation in abundance. What it largely lacks is execution automation that is accessible to people who are not running trading bots on dedicated servers. Fomo Trades is an attempt to bring systematic, rule-based execution to a much wider group of people using a setup that takes minutes rather than days.

The fear and greed index is not the only signal that could drive this kind of system. It is the right starting point because it is free, publicly available, updated daily, and has a documented historical relationship with market behavior. Future versions could incorporate additional signals, support more asset pairs, allow more complex rule sets, or extend to mainnet as ARC develops.

For now, the goal was to build something honest, working, and verifiable on ARC Testnet. Something that demonstrates a real use case for automated stablecoin-based trading on a chain built specifically for financial applications. We think Fomo Trades does that.
