AI agents are already good at deciding what to pay for. They can pick a data provider, rent compute, or pay another agent for a subtask. The hard part is not giving an agent a wallet. The hard part is deciding how much of that wallet it should control.


A normal wallet gives its signer full authority over everything inside it. That is fine for a person. For an autonomous agent running around the clock, one bad prompt or one compromised key is enough to drain it.

This was the problem that started 

Arcanum is a non-custodial smart contract wallet on Arc. The agent holds a signer key and can propose USDC transfers on its own. Before any USDC moves, the wallet asks an onchain policy engine whether the payment is allowed.


The policy is a small set of rules attached to each wallet:

Whether the counterparty must be on a vendor allowlist

Which spend categories are enabled (API, compute, data, subcontracting, other)

An amount above which a human quorum must approve

Every proposed transfer ends in exactly one of these:


 The payment is inside policy. USDC is transferred.

 The amount is above the review threshold. The transfer is held until the operator quorum approves or rejects it.

 A cap, category or allowlist rule was broken. Nothing moves.

 The counterparty is blocked. The wallet stops accepting transfers until an operator reviews it.


The agent stays useful inside its boundaries. The moment it reaches one, control comes back to the people responsible for the funds. The wallet contract enforces this, not the agent and not our server

The contracts are also 

 under Apache-2.0. I will keep sharing the technical decisions, the problems we run into and how we solve them as we bring it to Arc.
