I’m building Shadow around sponsor-funded agent purchases on Arc. One question I keep coming back to is what the agent should do when it submits a payment and loses the response.

A timeout leaves the outcome unknown. If the agent starts another purchase immediately, it can pay twice for one task.

Here’s a small recovery test I’d suggest for anyone building an agent payment flow:

1. Give the purchase a stable request ID before submission, and persist it with the network, recipient, amount and expected service.

2. Interrupt the client after submission but before it receives confirmation.

3. Restart and look up the original transaction or service request. Keep the purchase pending until its outcome is known.

4. Retry the same logical request and check that it recovers the original result rather than making a second payment. Also test reusing that ID with a changed amount or recipient; that should be rejected.

The part I’d check in the UI is whether “recover status” and “make a new purchase” are clearly different actions. A user shouldn’t need to guess whether a retry spends more USDC.
